Tentatively Scheduled for

Sat., August 22, 2020

Save the date for this year's HDA Repair Affair! So many families in Eastern Kentucky need home repairs, but can't afford them or physically make them on their own. Drawing upon the mountain tradition of neighbor helping neighbor, our professional carpenter crews will team up with up to 100 volunteers to make repairs for the elderly, needy, and disabled in Perry County.

Serving up to 10 families in a single day, our crews provide the repairs needed by low-income folks who can get them no other way.

If you're looking for ways to help and impact your community, this event provides a wonderful opportunity for doing just that! We're looking for local volunteers - churches, high school groups/clubs, civic groups, businesses, etc. - who want to reach out and touch the lives of others. And remember: you don't have to know a thing about construction or repair work! Our HDA carpenters will be with you every step of the way. All you need is a good heart and the willingness to help. So, come join us, make new friends and memories, and make your community a better place to live for everyone! Click the button below to sign up (individuals and groups are welcome to register).

Repair Affair Volunteers

In 2019, volunteers from a local high school football team helped build a new porch for a homeowner in the Clear Fork community.

What is the HDA Repair Affair?

The Repair Affair utilizes donations of funds and materials in bringing 100+ local volunteers together to provide home repairs and modifications for low-income homeowners who are often elderly or disabled. These repairs help them stay in their homes and live there safely.

The focus of this event is on home safety, security, healthy living environments, weatherizing, and neighborhood stability. It's not an emergency repair program, and our goals are not centered upon decorating or remodeling. The challenge is to complete most or all of the repairs in one day.

Since our first Repair Affair event in 1999, more than 1,200 local volunteers have repaired 145 houses. Typical repair projects include:

  • repairing roofs,

  • repairing floors,

  • building wheelchair ramps,

  • building porches,

  • installing handrails and grab bars,

  • building steps,

  • interior and exterior painting,

  • yard work and cleanup,

  • and other similar tasks.

Repair Affair recipients must:

  • Own and reside in the home.

  • Be low-income and/or at least 60 years old or certified as disabled.

  • Live in Perry County, KY.

Repair Affair recipients are selected and approved by the Housing Development Alliance.

All repairs completed during the Repair Affair are done at no cost to those in need.

This year's Repair Affair is a part of HDA's campaign to serve 1,000 families in the next 10 years. A donation from you will help us serve the 100 families we need to serve this year in order to stay on track to meet our goal!
