The Housing Development Alliance has been meeting the area's housing needs for over 25 years, but our story began with a group of devout women in the 1970s who were on a mission to help their community. From their conviction, they applied for a grant to help start a local food bank and formed the organization, Hazard-Perry County Community Ministries. 

 

As the organization grew, so did the number of programs. They were able to fund a daycare program, a homeless shelter, and a Crisis Aid Program. In the 1990s, Gerry Roll was hired as the Director of Community Ministries. Gerry, with the help of Jennifer Weeber, discovered that housing issues seemed to be a leading cause of financial distress for individuals who were seeking help from the Crisis Aid Program. Gerry and Jennifer discovered that HUD’s newly created HOME Program had a set-aside for community-based groups, so they formed a board of directors and the Housing Development Alliance (HDA) was incorporated in 1993.  

Scott McReynolds was hired as HDA's Executive Director in 1994. Since that time, HDA has grown from an idea into a multi-faceted and highly respected housing non-profit organization. Driven by a strong desire to improve our community, HDA has been able to meet the housing needs of over 2,300 people, while providing a much needed economic boost to the local economy. 

HDA owes much of its success to the dedication, support, and belief of its donors, volunteers, and community supporters.
