A Year of Service with the Housing Development Alliance in Hazard, KY

SERVICE DESCRIPTION:
Are you interested in working with an amazing group of clients as they seek affordable, high-quality housing in the heart of Appalachian Kentucky? Would you like to support rural families as our agency works to eliminate sub-standard housing? If so, HDA’s AmeriCorps opportunities might be the perfect fit! We are recruiting two direct service members to do 12 months of service in our program. These service positions are perfect for caring and motivated individuals committed to helping rural families and individuals realize their dreams of owning their own home or improving their home. Service in our AmeriCorps program requires a commitment to 1,700 hours of service. Projects are based on a 36-hour week. Members receive a monthly stipend and an education award of $6,095 upon completion.
The program year begins August 1, 2019 and ends July 31, 2020.
Find out more about HDA by visiting www.hdahome.org.
If interested, please email HDA Assistant Executive Director Chris Doll at chris@housingdevelopmentalliance.org.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:
To be eligible to serve as an AmeriCorps member, you must be at least 17 years
old at the time you start serving. You must be a U.S. citizen or lawful
permanent resident. You must be able to pass the National Service Criminal History Check.
DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE POSITIONS:
The Construction Members will serve alongside HDA carpenters building and repairing houses. The HDA carpenters are divided into different crews that complete different aspects of construction and are specialized into those “niches.” There are times, though, when a specific crew will need additional labor to complete a specific task (e.g., when the framing crew sets trusses or the repair crew is shingling). In these instances, the Construction Members can provide that additional labor without HDA having to disrupt the productivity of other crews.
